How to run virtual Machine and Internet connection sharing on Fed8

Hi everyone, I am a new user to Fedora 8. I installed it on my old desktop
so I can practice how to get around and be familiar with Linux so in the Future I can migrate to Linux and be Windows Free :). What I am trying to do now is to control my desktop(running Fedora 8) through my laptop (running Windows XP) because my monitor for the desktop is coming to its end days, and I can save space by doing this. I download TightVNC for this but I'm having trouble configuring it in Fedora. After this is finally done and I don't need to use the monitor anymore. I want to do Internet Sharing Connection because I don't have wireless on the desktop. Thanks for everyone's time in advance.

what's this got to do with virtual machines?? best way to run vnc under fedora is probably to use the xorg internal module: http://www.realvnc.com/products/free/4.1/x0.html or you might like to look at a more encompassing remote service like freenx, which would be seen to be much closer to the full "windows remote desktop" feature set.

if you want ICS, then that's windows configuration, nothing interesting to do on the fedora machine just to use windows as the default gateway.

Thanks guys for all the helpful responses. I was wondering do I need a crossover CAT5e crossover cable for this?

So as long as the ICS is configured correctly Fedora would pick it up without problems or setting changes?

well you will need to set up static addresses on each end of the link, as I don't *think* ICS includes a simplistic DHCP server or such. you would use a crossover cable if there is no switch involved...
