How to recompile the kernel with a timer frequency of 100Hz?

I am trying to run Fedora11 in Sun VirtualBox 3.02 and found the following in VirtualBox's help menu:

"for example Fedora, ship a Linux kernel configured for a timer frequency of 1000Hz. We recommend to recompile the guest kernel and to select a timer frequency of 100Hz."

I have no experience in compiling linux kernels. Could anyone provide instructions on how to recompile a Fedora kernel with a new timer frequency? Thanks in advance.

When you do the config step, there is a choice for timer frequency that should not be hard to find. Google 'fedora compile kernel' or something if you want to know how to do that; it's documented hundreds of times over and there is very little that is even Fedora-adapted about the process.

Now, not that learning how to compile a kernel isn't a worthy endeavor, but why do you think you need to do this aside from 'it says to'? If you're just playing around, that's a huge amount of work, and I seriously doubt you'll notice much if any gain from this.
