ive been having a lot of trouble with the latest 2157 kernel as it crashes when booting in SMP and gives trouble when installing proprietry nvidia drivers and is just generally unstable on my desktop. i was wondering if i can say install a slightly older kernel say the 2133 or 2096, anything to get off the buggy FC5 default 2054 kernel. is it possible to do this using yum ? if so, how ?
It is. You can have multiple kernels installed, so actually you should be able to use Yum to install an older kernel too. There is one problem, though, and that is this: Yum reposities usually have the latest packages available, so to get an older package you'll either need to be lucky to find an older reposity, or download the needed package(s) to your HD and create a local reposity for Yum to use. Read Yum documentation on how you do this.
