Angry How to configure up2date to use a mirror

I've installed Fedora core 1. It's a great distro - however the up2date site is slow as molasses. Can I configure up2date to use a mirror?

Yes - you can find a list of mirrors here:

http://fedora.redhat.com/download/mirrors.html

And to change the mirrors - simply su to Root user in an xterm then do

editor /etc/sysconfig/rhn/sources

(were editor is your text editor - ie gedit or kedit etc etc...)

then comment out your existing repos. and put you're two new ones in like this:

yum fedora-core-1 <http://....../1/i386/os/>

yum updates-released <http://...../updates/1/i386/>

I've found this:

http://www.people.virginia.edu/~rtg2...tem.admin.html

which says the same thing. However, up2date want's to register with RHN. How can I tell it not to register?

Thanks,

Ed

Its a bug in the Red Hat Network Alert Notification Tool, it exists in the FC1 CDs, that's version 2.1.2. once you update that to a later version (I'm running 2.1.4 now), it won't come up with that message.

You can blast through those notices and still get to up2date and run it successfully.

Thanks very much for your help. I was just at the point of bashing my head off the wall when I realised that all the mirrors there mirror the updates aswell (I had originially disregarded them as just installation mirrors.

Thanks very much for your help.
