How to bring up a skin and a shortcut for mplayer?

I've managed finaly how to install mplayer, I can play anything with it, but is there a little thing that I can't do it by myself: I can't find the way to install a graphical interface (skin) and to place a shortcut to desktop or menu. For now, I open a movie with simply right-click on it, open with... and type in the dialog 'mplayer'. Is there a way to make mplayer looks like a classic media player? (It should be!) Please tell me: How ?
...Remember, I am a NEWBIE in Linux...so pls be patient with me....

You start the gui version with the command "gmplayer". That should give you the skinnable interface, assuming the version you installed was compiled with gui support.

There are also a few separate gui players that use mplayer as the backend, such as kplayer and kmplayer. Some of them kind of resemble media player.
