How do i disable Mplayer from popping up EVERYTIME i get an IM on FB?

hey guys. Ive had it with this little issue with the distro. For the life of me, MP3 would never work. Ive insdtalled just about every package you can imagine from every tutorial, and yet when i try to load an Mp3 file, it still says no available codec

So what annoys me is, everytime i get an IM on facebook, Mplalyer pops up, searches for a Codec, then errors!

But once in a great while either that ownt happen, or it actually plays the sound. Imagine that

But its incredibly frustrating and disrupting, so is there any way to just disable mplayer altogether? or make it work right? i just want the damn thing to stop popping up!

First. you should install the libmad package from the rpm-fusion repositories. That should fix most of your problems. (The version of mplayer the rpm-fusion repositories, IIRC, includes some propitiatory extensions which make it somewhat more versatile.)

Second, check the "application associations" settings for MP3 files, and change it as appropriate so some other, or no, app starts for such files.

Note that Fedora does not provide support for mp[1234] files since those formats are patent-protected, and, therefore, not FOSS.
