How do I add menu items in Gnome for newly installed apps?

I'm kinda new at this and one nagging thing I've not been able to figure out is how to add menu items for newly installed applications in Gnome. I've been messing around with Linux for a few months now and the one thing that always keeps me going back to Windows is the simple fact that I have no idea how to add my applications to my menu so that I can access them there. I'm sure this is probably an easy one but it's whippin' me.

Just follow the instructions in this link and you will be able to edit your Gnome Menu:

HTH :)

PS. I never did the step for the user files and my menu editing works fine.

I have fedora 1 and I followed the steps on the link and now I can not load X with root. I have another account that I can log into X though.

How can I fix it to root will load X. It shows my NVidia screen then after that instead of loading the gui goes back to a prompt after giving a confusing message. Any clues???

What message does it give you when trying to load X with root. This will help in finding the solution.
