Ok - the program "man" is probably not installed.
How did you install f8? From the official install disk or a pre-existing VM? The program is on the official install disk and the repos - I would normally just use fedoras add programs facilities. That would be yum install man - except that f8 repos are no longer supported. (current version is f10, oldest supported is f9). So you'll need to use the install disk. It's usually part of the base system. You must have selected a very minimal install. |
it was a downloaded fc8 here in the office. . i cannot download the fc9 version here. . .i cant even see the man in the "applications" to be installed/included in the options...btw, i messed up my Guest FC8 when trying to do a lvreduce :) im now in the process of reinstalling it :)
btw, i have re-installed the guest fc8.. man now available. . thread can be closed :) thanks :) |

For the record - the man program and it's documents are included in a bundle of packages so it won't have it's own entry under "applications to be installed or included". Selecting anything other than the absolute minimum server install should include them. Of course, an incomplete install may also exclude them. I would be remiss if I did not point out, at least for the benifit of others googling here, that there has been much work on fedora since f8 - particularly, there have been serious security vulnerabilities fixed, which may be important to a server installation. Still ... f8 should not be too old to learn from. Have fun. |
