Exclamation Help: WPC54Gv2 NOT using ndiswrapper

I realize i'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer but I want to believe that I'm not as dumb as a sack of nickles.
In the absence of substance, allow me to cut right to the jargon.

Installed FC4 with Kernel 2.6.14.3. I have a Linksys WPC54Gv2 which works great with ndiswrapper. (Yay for > 4K Stacks) I want to use Kismet but it doesn't support ndiswrapper - great.'

After searching high and low I ran across some [archive] forum (https:[slash][slash]www[dot]redhat[dot]com[slash]archives[slash]fedora-list[slash]2005-August[slash]msg03945.html) where a gentleman was able to get his WPC54G WiFi card to work.

#lspci
09:00.0 Network controller: Texas Instruments ACX 111 54Mbps Wireless Interface
#lspci -n
09:00.0 Class 0280: 104c:9066

Attempting to follow his steps and the links provided, I did a little due diligence, and thought I found a potential solution but later got confused. I've been bouncing between the following four sites for guidance on getting my card to work:
http:[slash][slash]195[dot]66[dot]192[dot]167[slash]inux[slash]acx_patches[slash]acx_fw[slash]acx111_xterasys_xn2522g[slash]fw3[slash]
http:[slash][slash]www[dot]houseofcraig[dot]net[slash]acx100_howto.php
http:[slash][slash]acx100[dot]sourceforge[dot]net[slash]
http:[slash][slash]lisas[dot]de[slash]~andi[slash]acx100[slash]

I read most of the documentation on the very last page mentioned above but stopped after getting down to the 'USAGE HINTS' area as I got a little confused when it came to the 'FIRMWARE INSTALLTION' section. Here I'll detail what I did, and hopefully someone can nudge me in the correct direction:

copied my FwRad17.bin to firmware/ as TIACX111.BIN
ran 'make inject KSRC=/path/to/kernel/src' which appeared to run ok ["Process successfully completed. Enjoy it!"]

After that I could not figure out where to go.

FYI the binary files that came with the drivers:
Fw1130.bin
FwRad16.bin
FwRad17.bin
radio16.bin
radio17.bin

I'm also concerned that I did not put the correct .bin files in the correct location(s[?]).

I am no looking to be spoonfed - I would just like a little advice (maybe more documentation) and a thumbs up/thumbs down as to what I did and a nudge in the correct direction.

Thanks.

Julius

hi Julius, from reading over the section on 2.6 kernel installation on the last page and what was said on craig's site - it appears you have a couple steps remaining.

from what was said on that last page you referenced the driver is being placed into the kernel source and then you would have to rebuild the kernel, which would now contain the driver. along with compiling a new kernel you would also need to copy the bin files (gplus.bin, FwRad16.bin, FwRad17.bin, TIACX111.BIN) from the window's cd into: "/usr/share/acx".

the path craig's guide takes might be more interesting to you, as it does not involve rebuilding the kernel. following his guide would allow you to build the module in your home directory, and then install the built *.ko module file into the library path for the existing kernel - which should look something like: /lib/modules/(uname -r)/kernel/drivers/net/wireless. according to craig's guide your driver expects the module to be in its own "acx" directory under the wireless directory. then run depmod and the module should be installed and working. also, make sure the window's *.bin files get copied into the "/usr/share/acx" directory.

the only things i can spot that you would have to watch for are:
1) fedora core doesn't package the built kernel source with the distribution. you would have to download the kernel's header file rpm package and install it to get the source tree.
2) fedora core tends to put it's kernel source into /usr/src/kernels/(uname -r) rather than /usr/src/linux. this is easy enough to fix with a symbolic link to the kernel.

i'm also curious as to what the full path of that firmware directory you copied your FwRad17.bin file into is - since from what the guides say it sounds odd...

installing the module using craig's way would work fine as long as the module builds, as that process above is basically how i made my WMP54Gv4 RaLink module.

hope that helps.
