Help regarding iptables... FC3

Hello,

I need som pointers how to edit iptables in FC3...

I've bought a book called "Setting Up LAMP". It helps you create a linuxserver with Apache, MySql and Php. Ive installed Fedora Core 3 and Apache but I only get access to the "apache welcome page" with the server and not my other computers on the same network.

The book described an example on how to create your own firewall and that you had to shut down iptables. But the exaple didnt work because of the error "insmod: command not found".

My question is, how can I edit ipconfig to enable access with port 80 and 443.

I even stoped iptables, but it had no effect...

Any idea what I should do?

(and yes, I'm a n00b )

Try setting it up with firestarter if you use gnome or guarddog for kde.

iptables

Hi,

Once you have conquered the problem of starting/stopping/editting iptables, have a look at the man pages for iptables-save and iptables-restore. When iptables starts it essentially does an iptables-restore from the file /etc/sysconfig/iptables.

You may wish to record several different firewall configurations. This can be done by using iptables-save to obtain a dump of the iptables config for a configuration (after you've tested it). Then you can link /etc/sysconfig/iptables to the file that represents the configuration that you want at any time (use service iptables restart to upload the changed config).

It can be useful to have a dump of the no firewall config.

Hope this helps,
