Please don't post threads with uncommunicative titles like "help me" or "urgent". You're more likely to be ignored that way.

Your title should clearly communicate the general nature of your problem to the people reading it, so they don't have to waste their time opening up posts on topics they have no knowledge about and can focus on those that they can help people with.

The first link below this line is also a good read.

fedora 8 is no longer being supported.
fedora 10 is current(?) and 11 is out soon. When 11 comes out, support for f9 will stop.
Have a look at this: http://www.fedorafaq.org

Welcome

Welcome to LQ, jwalit.

Sorry we couldn't help better the 1st time out.

Unfortunately, they're right: FC8 is on the way out &, if you think about it, "Help Me?" is a pretty useless title to those trying to decide who to help. -- In fact, I only read this thread to see how gentle the responses would be.

So, read David the H.'s HOW TO ASK A QUESTION link & then the "How to Ask Questions the Smart Way by Eric S Raymond and Rick Moen" link it contains. Don't be discouraged, & please do come back.

And, is there some good reason for using FC8?

"On it's way"?? It's gone, surely. The error message is because the repos are not there any more.

In the gnu/linux world we have our own version of the upgrade treadmill ... only you don't need to pay $$$ for the upgrades, which takes the sting out somewhat.

Nice sig:

(I've always liked that story. Amazed that people miss out that last bit. The first presiding official said: "Sorry Sir, this is not acceptableuurrgh!" and his second, thus promoted, turned out to be brighter.)

@jwalit: how did you get on?

jwalit the repositories for fedora changed .the install dvd for fedora 8 ( past it's END OF LIFE) points to the OLD ones .
