see, I can't find out how to upgrade to a newer kernel either lol, I looked for info on that last night, but to no avail....and, I tried installing the i686 "kernel-devel-" RPM on my disk, and it says I already have it installed, so I pointed GCC to the directory, and it says:

The kernel defined by this directory of header files does not have the same
address space size as your running kernel.

but it's the same version as my kernel....dunno....how do I update to the latest kernel/headers/GCC versions?

my kernel version is: 2.6.15-1.2054_FC5

If you use yumex then open it
go to the install section
in the search bar type "kernel"
find the newest version of the ones listed and click in the check box next to what you want installed.
then click "add to queue" and then go to queue and process.
To read any descriptions for the listed item just click to highlite it the description is listed in the window below the search results
or if you want to try yum it should be
yum -y upgrade kernel-*2.6.18-*.22*
and yes kernel 2.6.15-1.2054_FC5 is a pain in the Yeah
my suggestion would be to install FC6 there are BIG improvements over FC5

alright, I loaded up Yumex, went to Install, put in "kernel" in the search bar, but out of the list of things you put in the other post, only 3 of them are listed, the kernel-doc, kernel-kdump, and yum-kernel-module....so I'm not really sure where the updated kernel is, or how to install it....

hrm, well, I do have a FC6 DVD, I just didn't install it cause it popped up the message saying it wasn't a final version, so it may be unstable...

EDIT: found the kernel and kernel-devel, they were under the Updates tab, so I'm DLing and installing the first 3, then DLing and installing those two....here's to hoping :-P.

uhg....I installed the newer kernel, and upon rebooting, after it gets past all the "starting....ok" stuff, it just comes to a page with this

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k1...nuxScreeny.jpg

if I type anything, it just gives that error, and keeps asking for the "Login" and "Password"....

type root then hit enter
and then your root password and hit enter again
you will be in the command line type yum update hit enter
let the updates complete then restart the VM see what happens
if it fails go to http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraMain and download the newest FC6 burn to DVD or CD and try installing that.

ahhh...well, I ran that, and it updated everything, but didn't fix it, it still has the error/problem, however, how do you start linux from the command line? I tried "startx", but that didn't do anything....

EDIT: I installed FC6, and it gave me the same problem with the headers, but, then I turned it off and back on, and the mouse-thing just popped up, and it was working....but I'm not sure HOW....so, I guess I'ma let FC5 rest in peace now :-P, I'll just use FC6 from now on, thanks a bunch! :-), btw, do you have an IM program? I'm in need of someone whom I can pose linux questions to >_<, if it wouldn't be too troublesome? :-).
