help! grub does not boot the system! dual HD, 3 OS
couple of days ago, system was hacked, so i decided to reinstall
the system (fc2). the status is as follows:
HD1: windows xp, fc2
HD2: ntfs partition+ mandrake 10
i finally installed mandrake on /dev/hdb5, i chose to use grub on
/dev/hda. it was ok to use grub before installing mdk.
but now, when the system boots, it only shows "GRUB" and
the hangs. i even do not have the choice to enter GRUB again.
any way to boot the system and fix the bootloader with the fc2 disk?
better be able to boot all 3 OS, only windows and fc2 are fine too.
Are you sure your BIOS is booting off the right harddrive? You might need to change that.
Did you let MDK install LiLO? Where to?
I suspect what has happened is that Mandrake's default LiLO install attempted to overwrite the previous GRUB installation, and failed, leaving you with no working bootloader whatsoever.
What I would suggest is that you decide whether you want to use FC's GRUB or MDK's LiLO, boot from the first CD of the distribution that contains that bootloader, and reinstall it using the distro's rescue function.
I know that Mandrake's Rescue function allows you to reinstall the bootloader; never used FC, so I don't know, but it seems logical that any Rescue functionality would include this.
Hope this helps.
while installing mdk, i chose grub instead of lilo.
i will try to run rescue mode to see how it works.
