When i try to open hardware browser under KDE i see a window open for a fraction of a second and then it disappears, no hardware browser window. Is this some kind of freak bug, or can i fix it?

"i see a window open for a fraction of a second and then it disappears,"

You might beable to get a meaningful error message by opening a terminal and starting the hardware browser from the command line.
