Exclamation GTK Pod on Fedora Core III isn't recognizing iPod Mini

I have my iPod Mini mounted and everything on my Fedora Core III system. [2.8GHz Celeron ]

I have tried everything, even reformatting the iPod on the Window$ side

But when I click "Read" in GTK Pod, I get this warning:

"Could not open "iTunesDB.ext" for reading extended info.
Extended info will not be used."

Then, when I try to Sync the songs with the iPod, I get this warning:

"Could not open file "/mnt/ipod/iPod_Control/Music/F07/gtkpod00053.mp3" for writing"

I have it mounted...and this just makes no sense...I have been searching for hours to find the solution, and have made no progress.

Thanks for your time.

same thing

I'm getting the same problem, and can't figure out what it means. It's as cryptic an error message as some of the windows' errors. Any help for us would be greatly appreciated.

Hey, go to the file menu, select "check ipod's files" let it do it's thing and process all of your ipod's files, then close the program, then open it back up, then hit read, it should start reading your ipod after that. If that doesn't work, then maybe you have a file in your DB that gtkpod isn't working well with, because the extended info is too long, or something to that effect. My first suggestion should work though, it did for me.

I've hooked up 3 iPods (60 Gig Photo, 4 Gig Mini & 1 Gig Shuffle) to my FC3 box.

This is how I got them all working :

I do this all as root to avoid permission problems.

mount your iPod (mount /dev/sda2 /mnt/ipod - or whatever yours is)

cd /mnt/ipod

rm -rf * (this will wipe your ipod of all the files)

load up GTKpod

File : Create iPod files (I'm not at home, so I'm not sure if that's the exact wording).

GTKpod should create all the needed files for the iPod (itunes.db and what not).

Then you shouldn't have any problems loading up songs. Also, you'll get that extended information error if you use Itunes & GTKPod with your iPod. I would recommend only using one or the other to avoid such errors.

Hope this helps

wipe

The general idea is that a lot of people started using their ipods with Itunes, and then stopped, so the suggestion, using one or the other isn't going to apply to many people. As for wiping your files clean and starting anew, it most times won't be necessary, the method I posted before has worked for 2 out of the 2 people I suggested it to. Anyone else that it did/didn't work for, leave a post. I'm curious. mounting to the /mnt directory doesn't apply to Fedora users(fc4 that is) it should automount to the /media directory along side your cd/dvd drives.
