grub2-install issue on fedora 16 kickstart

I have three disks in a Software RAID 1 (one spare) created during kickstart. I want to install grub on all three disks so i can boot in the event one drive fails and i have to remove it.

so in the %post section of my kickstart i have this:
grub2-install --boot-directory=/boot /dev/sda
grub2-install --boot-directory=/boot /dev/sdb
grub2-install --boot-directory=/boot /dev/sdc

when the kickstart completes, these commands seem to run successfully ( i redirect the output to a file and check later), and in the chroot'd post environment. but the box boots into a grub prompt.

if i boot into a F16 rescue image and manually run the above commands in the chroot'd rescue environment and reboot the box boots successfully.

so, what the heck ?

I've usually installed grub a separate partition holding /boot. In your case is /boot on the same partition? What file system are you using?

/boot is a separate partition and is ext4. as i mentioned, i can run the same exact command in a 'rescue' chrooted environment and then i can boot my system. but doing so in the install chrooted environment does not work.
