So whats the problem? You need to give more details so that you get some help. Did you not see a login manager or are you in text mode?

According to me he must be on runlevel 3.
Just type 'init 5' when you have logged in the terminal then press alt+f7
you should get the gui if you installed X11. Did you do a text install or a graphical installation?

I usually do welcome people to LQ if its their first post. This time I may have just missed it, so I apologise. Anyway we really need more info about the problems taco2006 is experiencing so that we can help. There are several reasons why he is not in gui mode e.g. graphics card problems or starting the system in runlevel 3.

As for checking runlevels, I am sure I have answered this before in one of your threads. "who -r" will show you what runlevel you are currently in.

Also if you are booting to runlevel 3 only you can change it in your
Code:
/etc/inittab
file.

Just change the line that looks like this
Code:
id:3:initdefault:
to this
Code:
id:5:initdefault:
and you should boot to your graphical user interface each time.

Thats if it's installed that is...

Try typing

startx

at the prompt. If it works, we can explain to you how to make this happen by default on bootup. If not, you may not have installed a GUI.
