glibc problem in fedora 3

I got the message:

[oracle@localhost root]$ Disk1/runInstaller
[oracle@localhost root]$ Initializing Java Virtual Machine from /tmp/OraInstall2004-11-17_09-01-20PM/jre/bin/java. Please wait...
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Unable to load native library: /tmp/OraInstall2004-11-17_09-01-20PM/jre/lib/i386/libjava.so: symbol __libc_wait, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference

when trying to install Oracle 9i on Fedora3. It was recommended that I do a check:

nm /lib/libc.so.6 | grep -i glibc_2.0 | grep -v @

and I should see:

00000000 A GLIBC_2.0

or higher which I did. Now Im totally stuck and dont know what to do? The only other recommendation that I have heard is to downgrade the kernel. Im a total Linux newbie so that just doesnt sound very appealing quite yet.

All ideas are greatly apprciated.
