getting xmodmap to work for all users?
I'm well on my way to rocking Fedora on my iBook; wifi works, system runs great...except Xmodmap
I have placed the keycodes I wish to alter into /etc/X11/Xmodmap I have also, for good measure, established a .Xmodmap file in /home/username This works great for "User A" (ie, the account I established during installation)...but on "User B" (established later through the GUI user & groups menu item), it doesn't work. "User B" does seem to acknowledge after I created the .Xmodmap file that such a file exists, it just doesn't seem to do anything with it. Any ideas? Could this be a file permissions thing? Does the /etc/X11/Xmodmap need to be more than read-only by Others? |
not permissions

What chmod exactly? Did you also change user and group?

So problem solved. More or less. (For the record, though, and for the benefit of anyone else running an Apple computer: this is not a perfectly graceful solution to the one-buttonness of an Apple. Controlling exactly what is being right-clicked does not seem to be consistent between all applications. I think an external 3-button mouse is probably the best solution.) |
