IS it a sata drive?

How long did you wait before rebooting? I would wait at least ten minutes to see if it boots.

Not sure if FC5 is using kudzu anymore or not. Kudzu is one of the tools for autodetecting hardware changes on boot up. I would boot up in rescue mode and goto /etc/rc.d/rc3.d and rc4.d and rc5.d. In each directory rename S**kudzu to K95kudzu. This will stop kudzu from starting up.

You might be able to issue the commnad ' chkconfig --level 345 kudzu off '. Does the same as above but in a single commnad.

Reboot and if it still hangs look in /etc/modprobe.conf and rem out things like USB or Firewire. Put a # at the begginning of the line.
