Question foreign file names and encoding

Hello all,

I would like to be able to use foreign file names such as Greek characters.

Is this a change to the file system or simply a change to php.ini?

Take a look at this howto. Mind that it's written in greek, so you should be able to read greek with your browser

Regards

Hello Bathory,

Yes, I have seen that but does that mean that with my current settings of en_us that I can add this to that or does it replace the en_us?

Will these settings affect any of my current menus or linux dialog?
I prefer them the way they are in English US.

I assume that all I have to do is to copy/paste the following into my current /etc/fstab file at the beginning.

CONFIG_NLS=y
CONFIG_NLS_DEFAULT="iso8859-7"
CONFIG_NLS_CODEPAGE_437=m
CONFIG_NLS_CODEPAGE_737=m
CONFIG_NLS_CODEPAGE_869=m
CONFIG_NLS_ISO8859_1=m
CONFIG_NLS_ISO8859_7=m
CONFIG_NLS_UTF8=m

Xairetismata,

Peter

Wrong!!!
These are various kernel settings to support localization. In a stock kernel that comes with any distro it should be already configured accordingly.
You just follow the instructions for your distro in the link I gave you to change your locale from en_US to el_GR.UTF8.
If you want to mount a disk containing files with greek names you can try the following in /etc/fstab:
Code:
/dev/hda1 /mnt/windows vfat defaults,gid=100,umask=007,codepage=737,iocharset=iso8859-7 0 0
