Font issues FC2

I am having some font issues with my new FC2 install - see screen grab. The problem is both in apps like firefox and in KDE in general.

I have tried lots of different things -

- made sure I was running the xft version of firefox
- enabled/disabled anti aliasing in KDE
- tweaked font.conf as per suggestions in forum.
- made sure my monitor has the correct refresh rate etc
- updated xorg

One thing I have notivced is that if I set my minimum font size to 12 in firefox that helps.

Any suggestions?

I had to do the same thing in Epiphany.
I think the problem is the current mozilla engine. At least with FireFox it probably is.

Huh.
My box doesn't have any new accounts, they are all accounts that have from RH8 --> LFS --> FC1 --> FC2.

I wonder if my issue is some preference baggage picked up from somewhere that needs to be cleaned out.

I should add a virgin account and log in and see.

I actually like my account created in LFS the best - it has the _real_ gnome logos and icons - not the red hat stuff. A real gnome foot for the applications menu, not some weird red hat.

Anyway - I'll add a virgin account and see how the fonts look there.
When I upgrade - the method I choose is a fresh install - but /home I don't format, I just manually update the /etc/group, /etc/passwd, and /etc/shadow files - so if it is a setting type thing, it's most certainly in the home directory stuff. Probably some gconf setting.

gnome stores some preferences locally.
So when you keep the same home directory when installing a new distro, you keep your old settings.

I beginning to wonder if _my_ problem is some preference or something somewhere in my user gconf that is old and for an older version of gnome.
