Flash No Sound in Firefox in Fedora 10

In my Fedora 10, the sound seems fine everywhere else except for flash plugin in firefox: no sound at all. I can see some very quick blinking of some sort of firefox plugin application in the Playback tag in the Volume Control of PulseAudio. But no way to click and select it. Anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks a lot!

Quick dumb suggestions...

Perhaps you have some other app that's hogging the sound and not letting flash have a go.

Try...

* Shutdown browser.... (WAIT FINISH READIN MY MESSAGE FIRST! :-))

* Do a sound check again with one of the apps you know works. Not "play CD' type app, but play "sound clip" type app.

* If that isn't working load up the alsa mixer gui and check the sound settings / unmutes are right.

* Exit the sound app.

* Check all sound apps are dead. The following command can be quite handy...

pstree -pal | less

* Restart firefox and try for sound again.

* If that doesn't work get extreme (if you're running pulseaudio or artsd or...)

* Exit firefox again.

* Use the following command to hunt all the sound daemons...
ps -auxw | less

* Kill'em. "sudo killall -9 daemon_name"

* Fire up firefox and try again.

* If that worked your sound daemons aren't configured right. If it didn't... Sigh! Curse me... for I have removed the "0 replies" status from your questions without providing the correct answer. :-(

might be a pulseaudio issue

When I start up Firefox through termianl and view youtube I get this message repeatedly:

ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1008: (snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave

I believe this may be your error. I have seen others having this problem on Open SuSE and Ubuntu and Arch Linux. It is believed there is a bug issue with pulseaudio. I have filed a bugzilla report and also sent Adobe an email about the issue.

when i kill pulse audio and restart Sometimes I get sound back sometimes I do not.

new occurance with the bug i just noticed

when I installed the totem plug in for you tube I would be watching youtube videos that way because of the broken sound. Well when I was doing that I might start off with 5.1 sound but the audio would go to 2.1 sound. I raised the audio levels in alsa again. and when I was surfing the internet I accidentally click a you tube video and I had gotten audio back. So I tried 3 times in a row making sure audio in flash was not working and when I tried the same thing over sound came back to flash. So the totem bug may point some light out on the sound bug in flash. I have not Idea what is going on but this is interesting.
