Finding a File and Win Install on a laptop with Fedora

Hello,

I am new to this group and I'd like to find out what to do about a couple of issues I am having:

With the help of a Linux expert who is now unavailable for a few weeks, I need to complete the setup of my laptop. We updated my laptop that runs Fedora Core 1 with the latest and greatest .rpm's BUT there's still a couple of things I need to do:

1) I installed Oracle on the laptop but for whatever reason, can't seem to find it or start it up. I'm used to Windows' - Start, Programs and there it would be, but it seems totally different with Linux and I need to find out how to "call up" the program I guess you would say.

2) More important even than the Oracle is that I created a partitioned Hard Drive with 8 GB free to install Windows but it's not easy. I'm trying to do things in "reverse mode". Fedora is already on the laptop and I don't want to remove it. I tried loading Win2K Professional from a bootable CD for the other partition and it works through the first segment but when the laptop reboots to continue the install, it always uses the Fedora partition and up comes Linux and the Windows install on the partition fails. How can I get around this problem? I want Fedora and Windows to be on 2 separate partitions which is my goal.

Thanks,

Steve Gara

The answer to the Windows install is to put the CD in the drive and start dos mode. When you get the A> prompt type fsdisk /mbr

This will erase Grub and install the windows boot loader. After you finish installing windows, Start Fedora with the install disk and reinstall grub with that. Configure grub to show Windows and Linux.
