File sharing between FC5 and WinXP

Hi folks,

I have following types of files copied on a pendrive of FAT16 FS;

xxx.txt
xxx.html
xxx.jpg
etc.

WinXP can detect the pendrive automatically. However all file extension, .txt/.html/.jpg etc. disappeared. If double-click the files they will be opened with NotePad making their content unable to read. I have to guess the type of file and open them with the corresponding software before they can be read.

Is there way to retain the extensions on all files. TIA

Extensions should remain. The default setting in windows is to not show extensions of known extensions.

Hi Brian1,

Tks for your advice.

I fixed it with;

(On WinXP)
Start "Window Exploror" --> Tools --> Folder Options --> View -->
(Uncheck) Hide extensions for known file type --> OK

I haven't run M$Windows for prolonged time.
