file browsing experience - I don't want a new window per folder..

Nautilus in FC2 has a neat little thing, computer:/// a Windows' "My Computer" kind of browsing (show cdrom, floppy and drives), but for every folder opened, it opens a new window... how can change this, so that it will open the folder in the same window? (No such option in Edit > Preferences)

Also, how can I add icons for each of my windows drives and add an address bar?

PS - Yes, I know there is a "browse file system" in the "red hat" menu...

Thank you in advance!

at least you can right-click the folder and choose browse folder from that menu...also, I don't know for sure but you could take a look at Configuration Editor to see if you can change the default to browse instead of open in separate windows..

We've been asking the same question in this thread, but haven't found a good answer yet. Keep an eye out as it might appear there (or here) and not vice versa.

I _think_ this is what you are looking for.
To disable spatial browsing run "gconf-editor." Expand "apps." Expand "nautilus."
Select "preferences." Tick off the check-box for "always use browser." All done.

You could also download an added config panel linked at ;
this spot. It just provides a gui to some gconf options not appearing in menus.

drive icons adding is quite automatical...just add an entry of the drive or mount point into your /etc/fstab, and you should get the icon for that mount point into your computer://

at least that's what happened 5 minutes ago when I added my new usb memory-stick

I added

/dev/hda5 /mnt/win_e auto defaults 0 0

It automounts my win partition on startup, but it doesn't make any icons appear in computer:///

You could investigate the /home/username/.nautilus/metafiles directory. I think there may be some configuration possible from here.

Good Luck!
