Fedroa frozen over

This is Fed 16.
I have the following problem: if my computer goes to screensaver, and I leave it a while, I can log back in, but everything is dead. I can move the mouse around, but I cannot click on anything, or open anything. All I can do is force a shutdown with the power switch, and restart. This happens if I use XFCE or Gnome 3.

Any tips on how I might cure this?

This is a Toshiba laptop, 2GB RAM.

[pedro@pedro-bedro ~]$ uname -a
Linux pedro-bedro 3.1.0-0.rc8.git0.0.fc16.x86_64 #1 SMP Wed Sep 28 01:31:14 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

What's in /var/log/messages?

Does it die if you disable the screensaver and leave it for a while?

Without the screensaver it stays 'alive'.

What should I look for in messages, it is very big! I will set the screensaver to 5 mins, and check messages after a crash. If I watch the time I might get a clue.

WHAT Version ?
---
the NOT working alpha TESTING and ONLY sort of / kind of , maybe works on the Development teams computers
and might NEVER run on yours
Fedora-16-Alpha-i386-DVD.torrent
------
or the bit better BETA rc3
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=270186
but still might NOT work on your hardware
----
seeing as fedora 16 IS STILL in beta testing
please write a bug report and submit it to the fedora devs

this is what beta testing is for
to find bugs
FIX them and report the bug and / or the fix

Yeah well, Fed 15 would not work on this Toshiba, it was a beta, it's been around for a year, but just caused problems. Tomorrow the Fed 16 beta comes out I believe. This version works quite well, just this bug with the screensaver.

This is a bit of 'messages', just after I caused a crash again, by letting the screensaver run a while. At 08:25 I tried to use the computer again, and it was dead. Can any of you make any sense of it? The lines with BIOS are a reboot I suppose.
The computer 'exited' because I pressed the switch off button, nothing else works!
I underlined the bits that look bad:

how the heck did you find one of the VERY old and dead beta testing iso's
and WHERE so that people CAN BE WARNED
they were ALL supposed to be removed ( be deleted) when 15 became an official release

Whoa whoa: I think I got things wrong here. I thought beta came after alpha, so it is newer. Not so??? I just downloaded from fedora.org,

I don't know about computers and stuff. But I know that Fed 15 would not install and run smoothly on the Toshiba, although I have 15 on this older laptop with nvidia graphics.I could install Fed 14 and had no problems, but we all like to have the latest stuff. Now I've put Fed 16 on the Toshiba, and apart from a problem with the screensaver, it is behaving nicely, as one might wish.

it goes like this
Alpha version
" it mostly works on the Developers machine and may or may not work on any other machine .
It is VERY VERY full of bugs that need testing ( and fixes wrote ) "
now there can be a alpha R1,r2,r3 all getting better

Beta version
Most of the MAJOR bugs are fixed and the program ( or OS ) will work on MOST hardware
BUT there are still bugs that need fixing - some bad .
and bugfixes still need to be committed to svn ( or cvs)

Release candidate 1
it works - some bugss
RC2 to rc3,4
please post what STILL dose not work
fixing the last of the bugs

Official release

what most SHOULD use

Looks like power management might be the culprit. upowerd is the daemon that puts your system to sleep if its been idle for a while. The page below has some of the power mgmt test status for F16 -- there are also open bugs.

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_D...owerManagement

You might need to disable some of the features if they don't work properly on your laptop until they are fixed.

I followed advice and set Power Management to 'Don't suspend' on battery or ac. But the problem persists. The new beta release is out now, and I have updated. That may fix it, who knows!

I get the same thing in Ubuntu, in fact Ubuntu freezes just whilst using it at times. I think that this laptop, although not top of the range, is fairly new, and some things are just not integrated yet.

it is looking like the "hibernate " is not working
turn that off .
It mostly only works on MS windows anyway

This is very common on laptops
the hardware manufactures need to MAKE sure that the changes in windows work on the hardware

and not the other way around

MS dose not make sure that there code works on the manufactures hardware

I suspect it is a cpu overheating problem. Try using cooling fans.
