Get rp-pppoe-3.5.

Super easy to install.

hello,
try the redhat-config-network,
then edit the "Nickname" field of the device ppp0 to "ppp0",
do not use the name of your ISP,
then... it should work.

I will give it a try.

Did this work for you?

icemncmth 11-13-2003 03:13 PM

It works but as soon as I reboot I have to do the whole process over. I have RH9 on my system also so I think I will stay with it until Fedora is a little further along. Oh...I have tried 42 different flavors of Linux and RH is the only one I can get my DSL working on..SUSE, Mandrake couldn't get the DSL connetion working....

If you enter these DNS numbers, Fedora will connect using your DSL connection. It for some reason cannot resolve DSN #'s.

If anyone wants to send a message to the Fedora Group, I think they would like that.

ICE-

How did you get your PPPoE connection to work with Mandrake.

Now to clarify. I am pretty confident in setup an internet connection in all other distros I have worked in. But when I installed Mandrake 9.2, I used the drak wizard to configure my Internet connection. I keep getting an error that say my login info failed.

After I got that error and after countless trials, I installed Fedroa back on my machine. Internet connection ran fine! What do I have to do to get this connection up and running in Mandrake?

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Mike

Mike,
I tried Mandrake and SUSE and gave up with the SBC DSL connection. I have tried at current 49 distros of Linux and only RH had be on the web in a couple of min after install..
hope this helps

It is prolly the PPPoE software that comes with the distro I would imagine. You can always try other pppoe software. [something that will shoot your uid [email addy with sbc] and your passwd thru ethernet.

Since Red Hat is dropping its support....I am going to give another Disto a try. I think I am going to try..BLAG...then maybe DEBIAN...or maybe give Mandrake another try.

Mandrake is pretty user friendly Iv'e always thought.

I have tried Mandrake but couldn't get the DSL to work....But one good thing is that usually in a few months after trying a distro I try a newer version and that fixes most of the previous problems.
