Fedora18 - Problems found

Fedora 18 desktop 64bit newly installed.

Encountered following problems;

1)
When I tried to play a .mp4 file I get the message
"missing mpeg-1 layer 2 (mp2) decoder h.264 decoder"

They couldn't be found.

2)
The browser is freezing frequently resulting in rebooting the OS required,
Firefox 18.0.2

3)
Highlighting words/sentence and pressing [Del] starts "Find" window instead of deleting the selected words/sentence

Pls advise how to fix the problem? TIA

satimis

you have been here for 10 years
so you should know that fedora will NEVER ship with non-free software
it never has and never will

mpg and the h264 are patent and royalty encumbered and will never be included
NEVER

please see Mjmwired's guide for third party repos
http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mjm-fedora-f17.html

17 looks like it will be the last guide posted

and see the "set-up-guids" ( the bold yellow link at the top of the Fedoreaforum )

Hi John,

Following 2 threads helped me out of the problem in re browser freezing and video decorder.

Mozilla Firefox freezes
https://ask.fedoraproject.org/questi...efox-18-freeze

Fedora 18 missing Video decoder audio decoder codec installing
http://jaisejames.wordpress.com/2012...dec-installing

Following problems still remains;
1)
[DEL] key on the numberic keypad still not working

2)
Hold-Dragging the right-slide bar with mouse to the bottom of the webpage, it will go back to the top automatically.

On this page as example;
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...45#post4896145

I have to try it several times before it works.

In seldom occasion I ran Fedora. I started venturing Open Source; RedHat -> Debian -> Ubuntu, staying most time on Ubuntu. If not because of the Fedora Cloud project I won't come back to Fedora. This is a new PC running AMD 8-core CPU with 32G RAM onboard. I'm going to install Virtualization running Oracle VirtualBox on it. Because I already have another AMD 4-core PC with 16G RAM running VirtualBox with Ubuntu 12.04 as host I expect trying something new, with Fedora host, here.

Still I have some problem on installing VirtualBox. The official VirtualBox forum refused to help because I'm running rpm fusion code download on Fedora repo. I'll try to sort out the problem myself and continue. If encountering further/too many problem I'll wipe out Fedora and go back to Ubuntu avoiding injecting too much time on the OS.

Thanks

satimis

1) Don't you have another DEL key? Why do you need the one on the numeric keys?
2) Did you install the new version of Firefox 19 like John W suggested?
The last link you posted is to this very page.

I have wiped out Fefora18 completely and replaced it with CentOS 6.4. The later works without problem up-to-now.

When time allows I'll test Fedora19 installing it on a VM of Oracle VirtualBox

Thanks.
