Fedora Sound/modem problems (and positives)

So i finally got around to installing fedora core 2 today on my linux pc, it is triple booted with RH8 and win 2k, all is well, i avoided the duel boot bug by passing the kernel my drive's geometry duing setup, if anyone has questions to do with that go ahead and ask....now for my problems

My first and most annoying problem is sound, i have a C-Media CM8738 sound card (got this from /sbin/lspci), right after installation, upon first boot, it poped up asking me to test the sound card, so i did and it worked perfect, but now i cant hear anything, i have gone into the volume control and made sure nothing was muted, and also cranked up the mater volume for the alsa and oss driver, yet sound still doesnt work, it works in RH8 and win 2k fine though, and worked in mandrake 9.2 while i had it installed. I would really like to fix this...

My next problem is Kppp, it is setup and connects fine, yet when i try to use mozilla, xchat or any internet app nothing happens, i get told google.com cant be loaded or irc.freenode.net does not exist, if i connect using the redhat network config it works fine but thats a giant pain, any ideas on this?

Thanks guys, ill post this on fedoraforum.org too and if i find anything out anywhere ill post back so other people can find this info if they need.
