Fedora needs a Yast type application

I have been to a couple of meetings here in
Indiana, USA and Indiana is working at present to move all it's school desktops/servers to Suse, becaues they
think that Yast is the one App. that makes
Linux easy to work with and I agree.
They like Fedora but it doesn't have a Yast type App.
It wouldn't be hard to make a Gui like Yast in Fedora, because Fedora has the system-config-* apps and to get them to work in a single gui wouldn't be hard.
I'am a strong Fedora user and I teach
people on the outside of the school system
on Fedora.

I agree - that could well be a killer app for Fedora and for Redhat. Since Yast is open source now, it should be a relatively easy thing to port it across to Fedora.

I've seen a number of posts across the internet about this, but no real action. Maybe no one is bothering because of Project Utopia?

I've never used YAST, but yumex is a nice GUI front-end to YUM. Install it with yum install yumex and see what you think. (It's in the extras repository.)

If you want fancier app install management, look at the smart installation management system, also available from the extras repository.

i don't like yast. it take too long time to load and to complete a modification. Wasting time.

Yast isn't a package installer only, Yast is consoldated (gui) configuration manager for all hardware-software settings on box.
For a new Linux user it makes life a lot easier.

mickeyboa, I completely agree with you and have mentioned it in past threads. At the moment the Redhat/Fedora Core administration tools are scattered all over the place and there is no integration like in YAST or MCC. There is a half baked GUI that acts as a frontend for the many config tools, but its not the same as YAST or MCC.

We can call it "Fast", Fedora-Another-Software-Tool .

I can't remember the name, but its not the gnome control center. Its a gtk2 frontend for some of the Fedora Core gui tools.
