Hello there,

I have downloaded a FC6 live cd version for testing purposes. Whenever the desktop (GNOME) starts up, there will be graphical corruption all over it and the computer will freeze. I am unable to go into text mode at this point. However, I can do so before the desktop starts.

This problem was not present in FC4, but I have the same issue with FC5, Ubuntu, and Knoppix. These CDs are not bad burns, as they have been tested on other computers and work wonderfully there.

My system is as follows:
AMD Athlon 64 3700+
Nvidia 7800 GT
Creative SB Audigy 4
DFI Lanparty NF4 Motherboard
1 GB of RAM
300 GB hard drive

I suspect that I need the nvidia driver, but can the driver be installed in a live cd distribution? I don't want to install to my hard drive to find out the driver doesn't fix anything.

I've resolved my problem now. Before I thought you couldn't install anything with a live CD, but it turns out my network was down. Installing kmod-nvidia did the trick, and I'm posting with the live CD now.

For those of you who might have the same problem as me, I used ctrl-alt-f1 to get into a console. I logged in there, and ran the following commands. Some of these might not be neccesary, but I am newish to Linux, so I include them anyways.

rpm -ivh http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-6.rpm
yum install kmod-nvidia
init 3
ctrl-alt-f2
init 5
