I have installed FC5 on my system and it works for couple of days and suddenly it stops responding. Rebooting is the only option to use the system again.

Is it an known issue with FC5 (2.6.15-1.2054_FC5smp)?
Before you do all that, try the simple fix first: Open your computer case (with the power off, of course), unplug each disk drive cable, at each end, one end at a time, and plug it back in.
It is often the case that a little oxidation can build up on the connectors, and the "scraping" done by removing and replacing the plug will "clean" the contacts. The problem you describe is typical of a "broken" connection.

Here is my hardware configuration. I bought two new boxes and both of them having the same problem. I installed the Fedora Core 5 image on both of them. I am currently updating my system with latest packages. Will keep you posted on the result.
I have two sata disks (160G each) in each system. They are configured as RAID1
(hardware RAID1).
Thanks for your help. I would also going to try PTrenholme suggestion once the update is done.

I just discovered that some ATA timeout problems can result from using a BIOS setting for "enhanced mode" rather than "compatibility mode." You might want to check your BIOS and see if it makes a difference. (Of course, that was with parallel ATA drives, not serial, so it might not apply.)
OK, I get same behavior, but I don't think it has to do with sata. I decided this must mean my harddrive was going bad, and bought a IDE drive to replace it. I just got the lockup w/o getting this error message. Here's another guy with same problem (crappy site is not allowing me to post url,
its at redhat.com under archives/rhl-list/2006-April/msg04323.html).
I have a Athlon-64 X2 system . . . No idea yet what is going wrong, but I'm not sure the lockup is caused by the drive . . .

Is it an known issue with FC5 (2.6.15-1.2054_FC5smp)?
OK, Filippos (the guy who had the same problem on the red hat site) provided the solution: edit your /boot/grub/grub.conf file, and add "noapic" (without the quotes) to your kernel line. I did it, no lockup for whole day . . .
