Fedora Core 4 installation problem

After suffering the familiar black cursor, white screen problem with the graphical install of Core 4 I went the text installation route. This went fine and the machine rebooted however it went straight into loading Windows XP rather than the bootloader offering me the option of which os to start?? Anyone experienced something similar or know what might have gone wrong?

Let me know if I can provide more info to help solve the problem

Thanks!

I assume that you selected Windows as the default system at boot. Big mistake, but ... to each his own.

FC4 uses a hidden menu, and leaves you very little time to hit a key to see that menu before booting the default OS. Be ready to 'hit any key' immediately after Grub starts. Then edit grub.conf to allow 10 seconds instead of 5 to select the menu. On my system, 3 or 4 of the alloted seconds are gone before I ever see the 'hit any key' message.

Then Grub must not be working. Try running the install program again from the install disks ... Choose 'upgrade' rather than 'New Install', and tell it to rewrite your boot manager.
