Is there a way to upgrade FC2 to FC3-test1 through yum or something similar?

Regards

I currently have Fedora Core 3 test1. It is very good. I havent installed Fedora Core 2 becuase it was doing weird with my HDs. But you can update to Fedora Core 3 with apt. The problem I have/had was up2date.

Well...it won't even get past decompressing the install kernel, it keeps telling me

<0> Kernel Panic: Attempted to kill init!

Or it just halts in the middle of decompressing.

I'm going to download another disc 1 from a different source and give that a try.

I updated FC2 to FC2.90 with yum today. I just changed the yum.conf file to point to the new 2.90 dir and run "yum update". A bunch of downloading, a bunch of installing, a quick reboot, and there IS joy in Mudville tonight.
Code:

[base]
name=Fedora Core 2.90 - Base
baseurl=http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/test/2.90/i386/os/

As soon as the Fedora.us server and mirrors put the headers up, I'll switch back to them.

So...in your yum conf,

You have this;

[base]
name=Fedora Core $releasever - $basearch - Base
baseurl=http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/test/2.90/

Instead of this;

[base]
name=Fedora Core $releasever - $basearch - Base
baseurl=http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/$releasever/$basearch/os/

...and everything else is commented out?

ranger_nemo 07-15-2004 07:34 PM

You'll need to add "i386/os" or "x86_64/os/" to the end of the baseurl line, but yes, that's pretty much it. I also have a Mozilla repo, but the new FC3-T1 repo has a higher version number and upgrades to that one.

Insert standard disclaimer "I am not responsible for what it does to your system" here.

fc3 has the same problem .. dual boot with XP?

btmiller 07-17-2004 03:04 AM

I downloaded it the other day (my first use of a RH product on the desktop [as opposed to a server] since RH 7.2). So far I like it OK, and it seems fairly stable, with the following exceptions:

1) I could not make the GUI install work (it died copying the install image to disk), but oddly the ncurses based install worked fine (maybe because I wiped off the CD betweentimes -- maybe it was dirty?).
2) Evolution refuses to open. It starts launching and then dies with no error message. I might try reinstalling it in case I got a bad RPM (cf above CD problem).

Has anyone noticed either of these? It's probably just me but I'm just curious on the off chance that it's not. On the whole, as I said, it seems stable and it performs OK on my hardware (P3 733 MHz, 256 MB RAM), but it still seems a bit bloated and sluggish to me.

downloaded and installed ok. went to run up2date and nothing happened. apparently there's an issue with SELinux.... i edited the appropiate file, and then it ran fine. but then after every single download it put up a window saying "Does not have a GPG signature, Continue?". I think I'll pass for now..... :(

You're going to have to wait until the Fedora.us server and mirrors put the headers up. Until then, no up2date.

how would you know if after the yum update, you are already using the fecora core 3?
