Fedora Core 3 freezes every other time I boot!

I have a new Insporin 6000 with Windows XP and Fedora Core 3. Every other time I boot into FC, doesn't matter what I do before, it freezes just before showing the login screen! Here's how.

I start the notebook and boot into FC3, it goes through all the intial steps and just before it shows the login username screen, it freezes with the hour-glass cursor right in the middle of the screen. I have to hold down the power button to turn the notebook off.

After I turn power of and restart, everything comes up fine. Again, freezes on restart, I turn off power, and it comes up fine. I am intrigued by this one-time-freeze-one-time-OK pattern!

It doesn't matter what I do, or how many times I boot into Windows, etc., Only thing that counts is booting into FC3, works one time and freezes one time.

I am temped to think that whenever I shutdown/restart properly, it freezes restart. I want to logout session and turn power off physically instead of shutdown, to test my theory. Will that break/corrupt my FC3 installation?

Any clues to troubleshoot this problem are appreciated.

Thanks!

A BIOS update was released 4 days ago. install it.

http://support.dell.com/support/down...leaseid=R95145

And you'll want to take a gander at your Intel Media Accelerator 900 vid card. Not to mention the motherboard chipset...

Do a search on Intel gma900 and grab the driver. Support is fairly new- like this month. You gots alotta work ahead of you.

Thank you for the useful clues. I updated the BIOS and have downloaded the 915 drivers from Intel. I will let you know how things change after I install those drivers.
