Question Fedora Core 2 Test 2 Errors

I just recently installed fedora c2t2. When I booted up the first time I have noticed a few things and I am not aware of how to fix them.

1. eth0 failed to initialize upon startup....(3com 3C905TX Nic card) !!!VERY IMPORTANT....lack of internet connection may be hazardous to my health!!!

2. no sound plays during the test sound after my sound card is automatically detected...(Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live X-Gamer)

3. I attempted to change the clock from military time to my prteffered time system and was given a clock app unexpectedly died message.

4. during shutdown the sm-client fails (no clue what that is)

I will admit I am a n00b though I have used RH9 Shrike with very few errors before on this system--minus my new video card. If I could be asssited, helped, guided, or maybe even consoled it would be appreciated.

This is kind of a cheap answer, but try FC1 as you admit you are a "n00b". FC2 T2 is a beta release and is intended for finding and solving bugs. Unless you are prepared for a bunch of problem solving, you're just setting yourself up for potential headaches with test releases. Plus, you're more likely to find answers and documentation for FC1 since it's been out for a while.

I tried out FC2 T1 when I first started messing around with Linux and came across some of your problems... namely not having sound! I have since installed FC1 and have kept it updated and have enjoyed using it.

Good luck!

It take me 1 hour to install FC2 test2, 3 hours to update it with yum
never bother trying it again

wait for the final release, temporary back to XP.

Good luck!

The sound can be fixed by updating the alsa drivers. I had the same problem on a SB card with fc2t2. I don't know about the network card, that is a nightmare for troubleshooting without internet access. That caused me to abandon Mandrake 10. I am getting the same problem during shutdown with the sm-client during shutdown although on startup it appears to load properly.

Hi guys,

I think it's because of kernel 2.6. have a look at this. The tutorial to upgrade to
kernel 2.6. It has some information to tell you how to fix the problems that you just mentioned:
http://fullo.altervista.org/phpwiki/...edoraKernel2.6

Hope it helps

Cheers,
