Fedora Core 2 Sound Fixes

I have just finished installing FC2. I have been plagued with the problem of no sound.
I have an AC97 (Realtek ALC650 w/ VIA KT400/VT8235 Gigabyte GA-7VAX1394 M/B with the driver (from linux auto-detect) VT8233/A/8235/8237).

Nothing worked until I came across a post that suggested using kmix, but what it said to do did not work - so i thought I'd have a play.
I clicked on the "Output" tab and started adjusting the levels. The ones that worked were the "VIA DXS" levels, which were zeroed, so try having a play with these.

What if I don't have KMix?
Easy. Log in as root, bring up a terminal window. Type "alsamixer" (w/o the quotes). Press the right arrow key (on your keyboard) till you get right to the end. There should be the "VIA DXS" levels. Use the up and down arrows to adjust the levels.

Please use this post to CLEARLY explain (step-by-step) any sound-related problems and their fixes you have encoutered.

Cheers.
