Fedora Core 2 or 3 and Windows XP with Bootpart

Hi all, I was using Mandrake 10 initially and thought I'd use Fedora as I seemed to like it a bit more

My set up for partitions and booting was like this:

2x 32gb Raptors in RAID 0 for Windows XP Pro (all in one partition)
1x 120gb Seagate SATA drive with a 30gb partition for Linux and the rest left unformatted.
1x 120gb Seagate SATA drive with a 50gb Fat32 partition for sharing documents between the two OS's. The rest was formatted as NTFS and used to keep my game files/updates.

I had Mandrake setup on the 30gb Partition as:
/ 20gb for install (sdc1)
/home 9gb (sdc2)
/swap 1gb (sdc3)

When I installed Mandrake the Lilo was installed to / and I copied the boot sector to a floppy and put that my C:\ in windows and then modified the boot.ini so that it would boot using the NTLDR and I could then choose what to boot.

So then I decided to use Fedora Core 3.

I installed Fedora the same as Mandrake but used Grub instead, and then used bootpart to modify the boot.ini, restarted the PC and went to boot to Fedora and it came up with an error that the hard disk could not be found (I'm at work at the moment so can't remember the exact error but that's the main part).

So I then installed Core 2 to see if maybe it was Core 3 that was being the problem, but it did the same thing.

Is there something I missed?

Thanks for your help!

I think you should check this
http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/....cgi?id=115980

and this one
http://lwn.net/Articles/86835/

I guess it's all about the kernel bug.

Thanks for those links avalometic, I have had a read but don't think this really relates to me, I tried enabling LBA but that still didn't solve my problem, I don't install GRUB over the MBR either, I install it to SDC1 and choose Bootpart to point to that partition.

if you were carefully read the page, you'll find that - somehow - during Fedora installation, the partition table is 'touched', although we aren't order installer to do so. n some people said that it happens on kernel 2.6.x with multiboot system. have you try the recovery solution provided by LWN?

I had a good read of the page and a few other links as well, but it is still doing it, I installed Mandrake 10 to see if that would still work and it came up with the same error, so I think it must be Bootpart that is causing the problems. I can get into my windows installation with no problems at all.
