Fedora Core 2 dialup problems

I have just installed Fedora Core 2 for the first time, and I am less than impressed. Not only did it fuck up my partition tables, and fail to work with my monitor, I also can't use the internet.

The monitor problem I have fixed, and I think I can fix the problem with my partitions using sfdisc, but I need to get online in order to download it.

Anyway, here is what happens. I have a 56k dialup connection. From a fresh install I use kppp to connect, which works perfectly, I am connected to the internet. But I am unable to send or receive anything at all, so its useless.

I thought maybe it was the firewall blocking everything, but I turned it off and the problem still occured. My connection works fine in SuSE, Morphix, Slackware, old versions of Red Hat, and Windows, so it's not my hardware.

Does anybody have any idea what could be wrong? I would very much appreciate any help.

Pen^2; take a look at http://tldp.org/HOWTO/HOWTO-INDEX section 4.4,
scroll thru 4.4.1 to 4.4.10,especially 4.4.3 dial-up.
