fedora and VMWare 4.0

Has anybody had any success installing and running fedora under VMWare 4.0 ?

I tried to install fedora under VMWare on the same machine and with
the same settings I used to install RH9. RedHat installs and runs OK, whereas
fedora generates a "VMware Workstation internal monitor error" when I try to
install the OS from CD 1.

Since fedora and RH9 are very close cousins, I expected fedora to run smoothly in VMWare. May this be due to a different kernel ? Any idea someone ?

I have upgraded my box from Rh9 to Fedora, and as i had Vmware installed in Rh9 when on Fedora the only thing i had to do was running again the "vmware.config.pl" script and it compiled with no problems.
Still this was an upgrade, but as it compiles for the same kernel i don´t see any differences. In your case as i understand, you want to install Fedora in a Ms Windows host im sure there is an answer in the vmware 4 manuals. look in the troubleshooting areas.

I had the same problem, but when I chose a text-only install it all worked fine. Works fine in graphical mode now that it is installed. Go figure.

Lightbulb

I hate to use my first post here to resurrect such an old thread, but it came up on a google search and I just recently ran into this same issue (and a solution).

Disabling the hardware probe at the beginning of the install got rid of the "VMware Workstation internal monitor error".

At the first boot menu, rather than pressing enter to install in graphical mode hit F2 for additional options.

The options menu will be displayed, the first option at the top says:

"- To disable hardware probing, type: linux noprobe <ENTER>."

This took care of the internal monitor error and allowed the install to continue in graphical mode.

Hope this helps for whoever may need it.
