fedora 8 freezes on boot up

I had to shut down Fedora 8 because it froze(I turned off power). Now it will not reboot and stops on "starting kernel logger".I dual boot with Win XP and have Fedora on my second hard disk.
Is there anything I can do to restore it intact.

Thanks for any help.

You may attempt to start services interactively. During the boot (after the initrd finishes and control is passed to init) you should see something like Press 'I' to enter interactive startup. Then you walk through the init-scripts startup process deciding yes/no/continue, say yes until you get to the one that it hangs on and say no, continue from there. Hopefully that'll get you going. You may have to go through this a couple of times. Other things may involve booting to Single-User or runlevel 1 by passing option to kernel via bootloader (?grub?) or booting to rescue media and chroot'ing to on-disk installation.

Is the computer overclocked? If so drop the overclock and see if it runs fine.

Beyond that, you really need to get to your logs on /var and work out what is causing it to die. My best guess would have been the overclock, beyond that i'd be looking at voltages and temperatures, then bad hardware (remove all pci(-e) cards and put them back in one at a time with a reboot in between, memtest86.

But please give us a little more information. We need to know the hardware spec of your computer, the contents of dmesg may also help (in [ code ] tags please).

Thanks for the replies.I have taken the easy option of reinstalling but I will look at your remedies for next time it happens.I seem to remember fedora 7 doing a similar thing.

Thanks again.
