fedora 7 shut down problem

Hello!!
i am facing a strange problem. Few days ago i installed fedora 7 in one of my desktop. Everything was fine during installation and even after that all programs are running properly.....means the machine is working fine and also can be updated through internet connection...yum is running well.....

the problem is when i try to shut down the machine, it starts the shut down process but fter some seconds it shows that the machine is halted. The the only way i can close the machine is to switch it off from the main power board.
Can any one suggest me why this problem in shut down process is occuring and how can i solve it?

thanx in advance
