Exclamation Fedora 2 - Kppp connects to internet using modem but apps cant access it

Hi,

I am trying to use kppp to connect to the internet via my modem. The modem dials and the connection seems to be made but Mozilla it seems cant access the connection. I have the firewall deactivated so thats not the problem. Is anyone else having difficulties like this?

I have found a way to connect to the net but it only seems to work when logged in as root (
It does not even use kppp. I went to System Tools -> Internet Configuration Wizard and set up my isp details. Then any time i want to connect i type ifup <isp> in a console window and to disconnect i type ifdown <isp> in another console. It works but is far from satisfactory, and being logged in as root sucks.

If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

Hey!

I have the same problem, but I'm dialing-up with the ISDN terminall connected to the USB port on Fedora 1. Everything goes fine untill I try to acces the internet!

... even the ping, traceroute doesn't work ...

Looks like there is a buggy kernel, because I've once seen a message like:
serialusb.c - To much data ...

Any solution for me and the upper post ?

Some more infromation on my problem:

When i access the internet using the ifup command it freezes the console. When i use ifdown command in another console window the message "Failed to activate isp with error 5" appears in the original console. I cannot connect using System Tools ->Network Device Control, this just freezes without dialing when i try to activate ppp0.

I feel this "Error 5" may be the problem anyone know what it is where to look for information on this (man etc)? There is no man for ifup and using the command on its own just gives a description of how to use it.

Thanks.

Go to System Tools > Network and you can activate/deactivate there. You can also set it to not force you to use root.

I have not got the option System Tools->Network on my panel only System Tools->Network Device Control which I believe has the functionality you have described . Attempting to activate pppo using it however gives the error stated in my previous posting

In case anyone passes this way...

Partially solved the problem.
Deactivating my ethernet card in System Tools -> Network Device Control solves the problem connecting to the internet using Internet -> Kppp but no lan now

Hello!

In my case there was a bug in the kernel module (serialusb.c).
I've installed the newest kernel (2.4.26) and the problem is gone ;-)

Ps. I'm connecting to the internet via dialup (ISDN Aethra terminal connected via RS232->USB adapter)!
