Fedora 2.6 Kernel & alsa
Hi all !
Just upgraded to 2.6 Kernel, everything works great but the sound... I have a bunch of alsa rpms installed(alsa-lib alsa-driver alsa-lib-devel alsa-utils) when I run alsaconf it recognises my card, configures, until I get: Loading driver... /usr/sbin/alsaconf: line 619: rcalsasound: command not found Setting default volumes... =============================================================================== Now ALSA is ready to use. For adjustment of volumes, use your favorite mixer. Have a lot of fun! And when I try running xine or xmms, the system hangs, no recovery !!! I used to run 2.4 kernel, everything worked fine. Maybe there's a couple of things I need to uninstall (OSS drivers ?) that may conflict with alsa ? Thanks for your time. here's my /etc/modprobe.conf : include /etc/modprobe.conf.dist alias eth0 8139too alias eth1 8139too alias usb-controller ehci-hcd alias usb-controller1 uhci_hcd alias char-major-81* bttv alias char-major-116* snd alias snd-card-0 snd-via82xx alias char-major-130 off alias char-major-131 off alias char-major-132 off alias char-major-133 off alias char-major-134 off alias char-major-135 off #alias char-major-81 bttv alias ieee1394-controller ohci1394 # --- BEGIN: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. --- # --- ALSACONF verion 1.0.1 --- alias snd-card-0 snd-via82xx alias sound-slot-0 snd-via82xx # --- END: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. --- |
A bit more info, I also get this, and I don't like it...
[root@europa root]# dmesg|grep sound request_module: failed /sbin/modprobe -- sound-slot-0. error = 256 request_module: failed /sbin/modprobe -- sound-service-0-3. error = 256 |
The 2.6 kernel contains alsa modules. Remove all ALSA lines in your /etc/modules.conf and reboot...you should be okay.

the same problem to me. The driver is assigned correctly (soundblaster live). I didnt install any additional alsa rpm but only default alsa provided by kernel. But still got no sound. What is it acctually?

I have a Auigy 1 card, and sometimes while booting I get an error that my sounddriver could not be loaded (I don't remember the exact message) But sound usually works fine even thought this error comes.

Hi,
Just installed FC2 on my laptop and although the install program autodetected the sound card fine, when I try to play any sound, I get the same error message as fedeloco :( I haven't installed any also packages or any other sound drivers manually/extra. Has anyone been able to fix this problem yet? TIA, Alf829 |
In my newbie mind, I've been trying to figure out this problem.
The instructions for installing 2.6 at http://fedoranews.org/jorge/howto/howto01.shtml talk about an "alsaconf" tool used to configure the ALSA drivers. I believe this "alsaconf" program is not installed when you install the new kernel. I think in order to get it, you have to install the latest driver and utilities from ALSA (it talks about this in the link above). In KDE 3.2, I can go to System -> Info Center -> Sound and it says that I have ALSA drivers installed, but no sound card configured. I believe the ALSA drivers were installed with the kernel since I haven't installed them manually. I'll try installing the new driver and utils and let you know if I can get "alsaconf" to work. |
