This morning it booted up without the software updates failed notification, so I guess I see if this behaviour persists.
By the way, what could "An offline update was requested..." mean?

Cheers,
Terry

Two days now without the problem.
I think it is safe to say it has 'gone away'.
I won't go as far as saying it is solved, as it is still a mystery.

Cheers,
Terry

odd bugs are rather common with fedora
it is just a "fact of life" with using fedora

things happen

it is after all a research and development distro

When i was using fedora everyday i looked at that as a puzzle to solve

but after time the puzzles were not so "fun" to solve anymore

I DO RECOMMEND reading , at least the front page of the Fedoraforum.org everyday to see what is up
http://www.fedoraforum.org/
and read the first page or two of the "new posts" on the forum

that way you will find out about new issues ,and can stay on top of things .

An offline update was requested..

Terry,
I was searching for another issue and came across this. Just wanted to throw something out here. I have a network of 25 systems that are used in a development environment and I stay pretty bleeding-edge as far as these particular systems go. They are all currently F18 Gnome3/Cinnamon x86_64 and I have seen this a lot. Anytime that updates run that require a reboot and the system is logged into the cinnamon desktop I have seen the notification pop up. I notice that there is no button on the notification to get the details in Cinnamon. If I log into the Gnome Desktop there is a button that brings up the "Offline update .. blah blah". If you keep logging into the Cinnamon Desktop, this message is persistent and never goes away, but if I log into the Gnome desktop once and click the details button it goes away until the next update that requires a reboot is installed.

Also I think that it may be linked to not just the update, but maybe moreover to running 'yum update' cli and rebooting? Never really traced it because the login and click is so simple.

Anyway, that's how I deal with it. Maybe it will help someone.

Thanks, but my problem simply "went away", as I reported 27 Jan. No sign of it since.

Cheers,
