Fedora 16 Virtual Box Additions Screen resolution (new issue).

Hello, I'm having an issue with my Fedora 16 VM. I am currently preparing for my Linux + certification and am running a couple different Fedora VMs.

On my laptop, I am running Fedora 13 in Virtual Box. Once I initially installed it and installed guest additions, I had to us this solution to obtain my proper screen resolution.

Later on, at home, I went to install Fedora 16 (newest version) on my gaming desktop at home. Again, after installing the guest additions, I edited the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file to include my needed resolution (1600x900).

Once I change the configuration file and reboot, after fedora loads the kernel, before loading the GUI, I get several lines of error code (referencing Guest Additions) and the system halts and doesn't boot. I have tried several times and continue to get the same issue.

So the solution works in Fedora 13, but I can not get it to work in 16. Does anybody have any suggestions? Had this problem? I will post a screen shot in a moment.

It looks like VB Guest Additions kernel modules failed.

So what is the output of the "systemctl status vboxadd.service" command?

Once I add my screen resolution to the .config file and reboot I get the error for the kernel modules and I am unable to boot unless I boot into Fedora recovery mode. From the root prompt in recovery the output is:

vboxadd.service - LSB: VitrualBox Linux Additions kernal modules
Loaded: loaded (/etc/rc.d/init.d/vboxadd)
Active: inactive (dead)
Cgroup: name=system/vboxadd.service

I can also use recovery and go back in to delete the line from the config file which solves the boot problem but I'm stuck with wrong screen resolutions.

It appears that Guest additions is still failing, however. After clearing the .config and booting into the GUI, the output of the systemctl is this:

Loaded: loaded (/etc/rc.d/init.d/vboxadd)
Active: failed since Mon, 13 Feb 2012 01:24:49 -0800; 2min 36s ago
Process: 690 ExecStart=/etc/rc.d/init.d/vboxadd start (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)
CGroup: name=systemd:/system/vboxadd.service

SOLUTION FOUND! The link I posted below, I will verify, solved my problem. Running these commands before installing VB Guest Additions Solved my problem.

su
yum -y update kernal
yum -y install kernel-devel kernel-headers dkms gcc gcc-c++
reboot

After Reboot, install guest additions and then reboot again. Problem solved.

Here is the link to the working solution.
