Fedora 15 *CD* iso?
I'm having trouble finding the iso files for the full install of Fedora 15 on CD. Lots of ways to get the DVD but no CDs. Fedora docs say it is out there (http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/...new-users.html) but if so, it seems to be hidden fairly well. Anyone have a link?

DVD : http://fedoraproject.org/get-fedora
→ → http://fedoraproject.org/en/get-fedora-options#formats DVDs are not considered very important : Fedora is a development OS. And has thousands of updates in its short life : 13 months. Many of the packages on the release DVD may be outdated : Todays count, Fedora 15 : 4825 updates. Besides that : Fedora 16 is out in 45 days http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/16/Schedule . |
A full dvd install of fedora Gnome,KDE,xfce,.. with the development software and WITHOUT the apache server
Just a full desktop install Expect 3+ Gig of updates EVERY 30 days for the first 3 months or so |
If I may underline the points put by John VV and knudfl, do expect a lot of updates, as each Fedora comes with a lot of broken stuff...
Maybe you could be tempted for a rolling release... |
Thanks for the responses. I guess I should have included some more information. I am going to make a minimal install (text only) on an old desktop. It has a CD drive but no DVD. It also doesn't have the memory to support any of the Live spins. I would like to use Fedora because of the availability of RPM based packages rather than source builds.
I guess if the CD isos aren't available, I'll try another distro like DSL. |
Ooooooooooh, okay...how about the new Knoppix?
Alternatively, I'd install the Live CD, and tweak-out the graphical desktop. You'll need to set the /etc/inittab up in such a way, the desktop will not even get stared. Just set the box in runlevel 3... Best of both worlds: CDrom as carrier, and no desktop, and RPM's...how cool is that? And, if you're up to is, try either TTYlinux, of Tiny core...of course, if you need a quick and clean one, I can recommend MacPup...barely needs a PC... :D I'll keep this one on my scope... Thor |
on an old machine i would not even try to install 15 on it .Even in text only mode .
SL 6.1 or CentOS 6.0 would be a better fit or if the ram is too low for cent6 use cent 5.6 |
The only distro that I know of intended for text-only operation is Finnix. Lighter weight desktop alternatives to Gnome or KDE would be Xfce and Openbox.

Post specs of the system in question. That way we could guess better.

CentOS minimal install.

- boot up a Live CD - in the console, enter lshw (when on a Fedora Live CD, issue "yum install lshw" first) - post that output here Tnx Thor |
