fedora-14 live usb - overlay persistent file space issues

hi, i just set-up my fedora-14 live usb on an 8gb usb hard drive but i see the space left on '/' is less than 800mb (i created a 3.5gb persistent file) like so:
Code:
livecd-iso-to-disk --unencrypted-home --home-size-mb 3500 --overlay-size-mb 3500 Fedora-14-x84_64-Live-Desktop.iso /dev/sdc1
but i still dont have much space to install programs.

is there a way to trick yum into installing programs under /home/liveuser/programs instead ?:
Code:
[liveuser@localhost ~]$ df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/live-rw 3.0G 2.8G 223M 93% /
tmpfs 1002M 352K 1002M 1% /dev/shm
/dev/sdb1 7.4G 2.0G 5.1G 28% /mnt/live
/dev/loop5 3.2G 130M 2.9G 5% /home
varcacheyum 1002M 0 1002M 0% /var/cache/yum
/tmp 1002M 92K 1002M 1% /tmp
vartmp 1002M 0 1002M 0% /var/tmp
thx,

I don't think yum can but i know rpm can. So you could install the yum downloadonly plugin then use rpm to install to a different dir.

so something like:

Code:
sudo yum install yum-plugin-downloadonly.noarch
sudo yum downloadonly <application>
sudo rpm -ivh --prefix=/home/liveuser/programs <application>.rpm

What might be better would be to shrink one of your other partition and then create a partition for something in / like for /usr.

thanks, that sounds useful, i hope download only handles dependancies...

i think it does but its been awhile since i used it. it just plugs into yum so instead of download+install it just downloads.

i dont see why not but i have never done it.

^ thx
Code:
--installroot=root
seems promising.

i wonder if it takes care of all paths or if i need to update those somewhere/ somehow ? (e.g.- $path, libraries, headers, load modules, ...)
