Fedora 11 Support for Broadcom Wireless Card BCM94309MP
 

Hello all,

I am currently downloading Fedora 11 for my dell d600 laptop.

I am curious to know if this version supports the broadcom wireless card BCM94309MP out of the box
or
do I need to use ndiswrapper to get this working? If so? does anyone know where there is good clear step by step documentation that I can use as guidelines?

While I haven't tried a Dell 600, I have tried a very recent Dell (1501??) and a year old HP laptop that both have re-branded Broadcom cards. In both instances after installing Fedora 11, I added the fusion-nonfree repository's to my yum configuration and then installed package broadcom-wl. After a reboot I had perfectly working WIFI including NetworkManager showing access points and so on. I didn't need to blacklist anything, I didn't need to use any additional configuration.

After installing Fedora 11 I noticed that it recognized my broadcom wireless card but it doesn't seem to be functioning.

While I can configure it through network manager, it doesn't seem to be able to find any wireless networks. Even if I manually specify my network it still doesn't seem to be able to connect. It just shows a "device not ready" type of error.

I guess I will look into your option of using the none free repository and see if I have any better luck.

After reviewing the messages log I found the following message:

Once I installed the right firmware (3.130.20.0) and rebooted, my wireless card started working.

you can use dmesg and find if the card is detected or not and set the modem to it
for example detected at /dev/tty0 or so...
